Artist Statement

I create intricate, hand-cut paper relief sculptures exploring the delicate balance between our fragility and strength. My representational work uses dynamic compositions that feature botanical and anatomical forms. Flowers, plants, anatomical hearts, human organs, and skeletal structures tell deeper stories about resilience and inner beauty through their symbolic meanings. I am particularly drawn to the ways in which the natural world mirrors the experiences of women—plants endure harsh conditions yet continue to adapt, regrow, and bloom. Paper itself embodies this duality—seemingly delicate, yet surprisingly strong.

Each piece begins with detailed sketches and careful planning, ensuring every element harmonizes. I select papers with intention, considering their weight, color, and texture to enhance the depth and dimension of my work. Using precision tools, I meticulously cut, shape, and layer each component, creating a composition rich in color, light, and shadow.

My art is influenced by traditional paper-cutting techniques from China, Japan, Poland, and Germany, as well as the cut paper works of Henri Matisse. Georgia O’Keefe’s floral and skull paintings also serve as inspiration. A fascination with biology, botany, and my lived experiences as a woman and mother all shape my creative practice. At its core, my art is about the connection between humans, nature, and the enduring bonds that link us all.
